About Neev

NEEV Herbal Handmade Soaps uses its profits to support some of the most pressing environmental and social issues in India such as female empowerment, sustainable production, and education for underprivileged children. When you buy a NEEV product, you are not only gaining an eco-friendly, all-natural cosmetic good, you are also supporting these causes and helping NEEV work toward a better tomorrow for all of us.

NEEV Herbal Handmade Soaps produces a variety of premium-quality, all-natural cosmetic products including everything from hair oils to shampoos to bath soaps. The products are made using cold process without adding any artificial or chemical ingredients or colours.  In 2007, husband and wife Anurag and Shikha Jain pioneered the organisation, hoping to build an organization dedicated to helping improve the lives of rural women and children in an environmentally-sustainable way. Located in the Village Hurlung of Jharkhand, India, NEEV provides an honorable source of labor for women living within the village community. These women hand craft each product using a variety of organic materials, from the aloe vera, rose, tulsi, mehndi, hibiscus, bhringraj, brahmi, ashwagandha and shatavari grown in NEEV’s very own backyard to the natural plant oils purchased directly from producers and farmers. One such oil includes mahua oil—extracted from an indigenous tree of Jharkhand—traditionally used by the tribals for skincare.

About the Founder's

NEEV (New Education and Environment Visions) trust was founded by Anurag Jain and Shikha Jain, engineers from REC Kurukshetra. They left their lucrative corporate jobs in search of a new vision for living, discontented with the predominant worldviews of materialism.

In 2006 they founded NEEV Trust with the vision “To promote sustainable practices, spread environmental awareness and seek equitable development by empowering underprivileged sections of the society.”

Shikha and Anurag completed their graduation in Civil Engineering from REC Kurukshetra in 1997. They met each other in college and the pull of a common destiny made them tie the marriage knot. While in college itself, Shikha and Anurag decided not to follow the conventional trail but to search a way of life that was meaningful, sane and one that leads to inner richness rather than materialistic pleasures.

After doing a brief stint in the corporate world, Shikha and Anurag joined The School - Krishnamurti Foundation of India (KFI), where they were drawn by the teachings of philosopher J. Krishnamurti. It was here that they developed a vision for an alternative and holistic education system that is based on collective inquiry.

Though KFI was a rich ground for innovations in education, they felt that the system was addressing only students from the upper income strata of society, while the underprivileged remained untouched. They felt a need to provide opportunities for the marginalized.

NEEV was born as a result of the questions that Shikha and Anurag sought answers for, as a non-profit Trust in 2006. Through NEEV they were interested in finding a sane way of living, not only for the self but for the other too - for the sociosphere, biosphere and the geosphere. As education remained their primary tool for individual transformation, they started NEEV School for the urban and rural underprivileged children in the year 2006, to provide them with Integral Education.

One of the constant and key challenges that Shikha and Anurag faced were related to funding and sustainability of the organization. So in 2007 they started NEEV Herbal Handmade Soaps, a social enterprise which would generate profits for NEEV but at the same time honoring the triple bottom line of People - Planet - Profit. Shikha has been actively overseeing the work of NEEV Herbal Handmade Soaps since then.

After innumerable engagements with the world, the challenges of organization building, sustainability and readings primarily of J. Krishnamurti and David Korten, Anurag and Shikha have been designing NEEV as an Integral Community.

Anurag maintains a blog on the kind of self inquiry that goes into Integral Living at NEEV Community for Integral Living

As a recognition for their work Anurag and Shikha have been a recipient of various State Level and National Level Awards.
